TOURNAMENT UPDATE

Blake boys’ basketball had the opportunity to build on its 4-1 start this past week in the Governor’s Challenge. But the Bengals were faced with two daunting matchups, and couldn’t emerge with wins in either one. On Monday, Blake fell to Westtown, 75-49, and it was dominated on Tuesday by Coatesville, 79-54.
BASKETBALL BOYS 🏀
Aside from Blake’s two losses in the Governor’s Challenge this past week, no boys’ basketball program had a single game.
Looking ahead, Tuesday’s slate is chock-full on entertaining matchups, including 4-1 Damascus at 5-1 Seneca Valley. Both teams are top 6 in the Montgomery County standings, and the winner could get a serious foothold in the top 5. Undefeated Magruder and 4-2 Sherwood also go head-to-head Tuesday.
Seneca Valley continues a gauntlet of tough matchups, taking on 5-1 Poolesville Friday. Magruder will also battle 4-2 Paint Branch that same day.

BASKETBALL GIRLS 🏀
No girls’ basketball games took place over the past week, so let’s preview some of the upcoming games to watch. On Tuesday, Whitman and Churchill — who are both undefeated — will square off at the Bulldogs’ home court. The winner of that contest is undoubtedly crowned the team to beat in Montgomery County — at least for now.
Friday also consists of some competitive games. Notably, Whitman and Churchill wont’t have much of a reprieve after their clash Wednesday; Whitman will face 4-1 Quince Orchard at home, while Churchill will travel to 4-2 Wootton.

WRESTLING 🤼
There weren’t many matches over the past week given the holiday break, so let’s preview some of the upcoming games for this week.
Below are some of Wednesday’s matches, including what should be a competitive contest between Poolesville and Wheaton. Churchill and B-CC will also face off on Wednesday with records of 2-1 and 3-1, respectively.
Friday and Saturday will feature a number of matches, too. Saturday’s contest to keep an eye on is between undefeated Damascus and 2-1 Springbrook.
