TRACK AND FIELD 🏃‍♀️

The Montgomery County track and field county championships went down on Thursday, resulting in Blair and Sherwood being names the MoCo champions. Click this link or scroll down to read more about how the top teams performed.

Blair and Sherwood have been crowned the Girls and Boys Spring 2026 Montgomery County outdoor track and field champions after a meet last week. The Blazers’ girls team won the county title with a solid gap over second place Springbrook with Blair amassing 84 points. The Warrior boys won their meet by a much smaller margin, garnering 90.5 points, a narrow gap above second place Churchill with 86 and third place Blair with 85.

Junior Cori Emah set her personal best in the 400m, winning the Blazers’ first gold of the day. Sophomore Clare Saboe also set a PB in the 1600, taking first place in the finals, but it was Blair’s relay teams were what clinched the top overall spot, as the 4x400 and 4x800 teams both won first place while the 4x100 group won a silver medal. Aurora Della-Giacoma was the lone field medalist as she won silver in the pole vault.

Sherwood senior Karim Alexander had a great day on the track, winning gold in the 100m dash and silver in the 200m. Sophomore Dimitrios Rementelas had a strong day as well, taking gold in the 3200m, silver in the 1600m and finishing fourth in the 800m. The Warrior relay squads also had great days, as Sherwood won the 4x100 and 4x800 while finishing fifth in the 4x400,

Regional championships will take place at regional sites throughout the state from Monday through Thursday at regional sites throughout the state, including the 4A West regionals at Clarksburg High on Tuesday. The state championship meet is slated for Thursday, May 21, at Bowie State University.

BASEBALL ⚾

Last Tuesday saw the Sherwood Warriors and Damascus Hornets play their third game of the season as the two faced off in the Montgomery County championship. Seven of Sherwood’s first eight batters reached in the bottom of the first, resulting in four total runs. Their lead was extended to seven in the next inning on back-to-back homers from Jake Berger and Jaiden Sarita. The Hornets’ lone run came in the third, and after scoring in every inning, the Warriors won the game 14-1.

Ten Montgomery County baseball squads are scheduled to play this Tuesday for a shot at six total regional championships. The four in-county games will feature Magruder facing Damascus, Wheaton traveling to Blake, Paint Branch playing Blair, and rivals Whitman and Walter Johnson playing for the 4A West II title. Following Tuesday’s slate, the state bracket will kick off with the quarterfinals this Saturday.

GIRLS LACROSSE 🥍

Sherwood took Walter Johnson on Monday, securing their third consecutive county championship victory. They are now set to play host against Marriotts Ridge for the 3A South I regional championship on Monday. Seven other teams from Montgomery County will look to lock down four other regional titles, as Magruder will travel to Wootton, Richard Montgomery will host Einstein, and Walter Johnson will face B-CC at home. Blair is also set to face the Laurel Spartans from Prince George’s County for the 4A South I regional title. Following Monday’s game, statewide action will kick off with the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

BOYS LACROSSE 🥍

Sherwood dominated the Clarksburg Coyotes 17-0 last week to secure their third consecutive county championship. Vaughn Teeter led the Warriors with nine total points, coming on six goals and three assists. Cooper Serwer also tacked on four goals in a game that saw the team make 17 of their 26 shots on goal. Elijah Goodman and Stephen Northern blocked all four of Clarksburg’s shots on goal, securing the shutout win.

Ten MoCo teams will be vying for six regional championships this Monday. Wootton will travel to Rockville, Einstein will face Blake on the road, Blair will host Paint Branch, and Walter Johnson will look to fend off B-CC at home. Sherwood will also host Marriotts Ridge from Howard County while Clarksburg will travel to Frederick County to face Urbana. Following the regional title round, the state bracket will kick off this Wednesday.

SOFTBALL 🥎

On Tuesday, Sherwood and Damascus faced off in the softball county championship at Blake High. The first two innings went by without a run, but the game was broken wide open in the bottom of the third. Following two singles and a hit by pitch, Sherwood’s Callie Kent launched the fourth pitch of her at bat over the center field wall for a grand slam. Sherwood went on a streak later in the inning that saw eight consecutive hitters reach base, all of whom came around to score to end a twelve-run third inning. After another run came across in the fourth, the game ended in a run-rune Warrior victory 13-0.

This Monday, 17 MoCo teams will play in their respective regional semifinal games before the regional championship contests this Wednesday. Action in the state bracket is set to begin on Friday and Saturday with the state quarterfinals.
