FIELD HOCKEY 🏑

Congratulations to five different schools in Montgomery County who emerged as Regional Champions in their respective brackets! Wootton was the lone school in the county to be a Class 3A Regional Champion — it bowed out in the first round of the state tournament.

Quince Orchard, Richard Montgomery, Blair and Churchill were the other schools to win a Regional, all in Class 4A. In addition, Churchill was the only school to win its first round matchup in the state tournament — a 2-1 defeat over No. 7-seed Dulaney. It’s set to take on Severna Park in the semifinal.

FOOTBALL 🏈

On top of the sensational Paint Branch vs. Churchill outcome, a few other notable results occurred in the final week of regular season action. Quince Orchard remained undefeated — and stays the prospective No. 1 seed — after beating Gaithersburg 35-0.

Sherwood also maintained its place at the top of the bracket after a 53-7 thrashing of Richard Montgomery.

SOCCER BOYS ⚽️

After some insane results the previous week, the Cinderella runs mostly came to a close. Congratulations to all of the Regional winners — Sherwood and Rockville both took home Class 3A Regional final wins, but both also lost in the first round of the state tournament.

On the Class 4A side, Quince Orchard couldn’t keep its win streak alive, losing to Whitman in the Regional Championship. Richard Montgomery and Northwest also prevailed as Regional Champions. Just Whitman and Northwest remain now, with Whitman defeating Richard Montgomery in the first round of states. If both programs win, they’ll face each other in the final.

SOCCER GIRLS ⚽️

Congratulations to Wootton, the lone Montgomery County school to capture a Class 3A Regional Championship. It was eliminated in the first round of the state tournament.

Meanwhile, four schools emerged as Class 4A Champions — Blair, Northwest, B-CC and Richard Montgomery. Shockingly, B-CC is the only team that’s still alive in the state tournament, as the prospective favorites in Blair dropped a 4-3 stunner to No. 8-seed Severn.

VOLLEYBALL 🏐

Just getting into the swing of the volleyball postseason, with Regional finals quickly approaching. In Class 3A, Wootton, Rockville and Sherwood all have the chance to advance to the state tournament and represent Montgomery County. Impressively, Rockville defeated No. 2-seed Magruder, 3-1, in the second round.

In Class 4A, Clarksburg swept No. 2-seed Northwest to reach the final, and Churchill decimated No. 1-seed Quince Orchard 3-0 to move on to the final. No. 6-seed John F. Kennedy also had to beat a few solid teams to reach the final — it took down No. 3-seed Blake and No. 2-seed Wheaton in the process, dropping just two sets combined in the two games.
