FIELD HOCKEY 🏑

Still lots of Montgomery teams left here in the 3A and 4A Regionals. Over the past week, we saw a dominant Clarksburg team stay hot with a 5-0 win over Governor Thomas Johnson. Quince Orchard also had a 5-0 shutout win over Gaithersburg.

Blake, coming off a bye, will have a tough test against a Richard Montgomery team that destroyed Wheaton 6-0. Speaking of teams that have momentum, Churchill and B-CC should both be riding highs — Churchill routed Walter Johnson 6-0, while B-CC had the upset: a 2-1 win over No. 2-seed Whitman.

FOOTBALL 🏈

Quince Orchard captured “The Rivalry” victory over Northwest Friday, 35-16. Last week to shake up potential playoff seeding, with Sherwood, Churchill and Paint Branch all sitting at 7-1 — the latter two programs will take on one another in what’s sure to be an electric clash.

MPSSAA Playoff Brackets will be released Monday, November 3rd. Find all football brackets here on CSZ.

SOCCER BOYS ⚽️

It’s third round time in the Regional Playoffs, which means all of these teams competing this week have one at least one contest in the postseason, if not two!

These playoffs have produced some shocking results in Montgomery County. Blair, which had a 8-3-1 record during the regular season and earned a No. 1-seed in the playoffs, dropped to No. 4-seed High Point in the second round. But that’s perhaps not even the craziest result; No. 5-seed Quince Orchard took down No. 4-seed B-CC and No. 1-seed powerhouse Churchill in back-to-back contests, and have a head of steam as it treks into the third round.

And be sure to keep an eye on Richard Montgomery — it took down No. 2-seed Whitman Friday, 3-1.

SOCCER GIRLS ⚽️

Montgomery County still has a ton of teams in playoff contention! Wootton and Magruder both had blowout victories in the 3A Division, winning 5-1 and 7-0, respectively, and will now take on one another.

Also worthy of note that there were no upsets at all as it pertained to Montgomery County programs; all games remaining are the No. 1-seed vs. No. 2-seed. Northwest jut barely snuck by Seneca Valley, 2-1, and now has a date with Urbana, who beat Clarksburg, 3-1.

In addition, Richard Montgomery looks to be red-hot, as it took down Blake 4-0 after a first-round bye. But No. 1-seed Blair, who hadn’t lost a game all season long, outdid it — the Blazers defeated High Point 8-0 Friday.
